Depending on how old you are, you may finish that with “the law” or “love.” Either way we know that when someone says something “in the name of” something else, they are saying it under the authority of, and representing that thing or person. So it’s “Under the authority of the law, and speaking on behalf of the law, I’m telling you to stop!”

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Col. 3:17

According to this verse, everything we do should be under the authority of the Lord Jesus. Your actions, words, and decision- did he tell you to say and do them, or did you say and do whatever you wanted?

Everything we do should be representing the Lord Jesus. Is it him living through you, or are you representing yourself?

As Christians, we’re not supposed to be running around “doing whatever we want just as long as it doesn’t make God mad.” We’re supposed to be fully surrendered to him. Our lives are dead in Christ. The lives we now live are in representation of him, and under his direction.
